Fresh from a long stay in Munich, I just realized that I have never written a post here about vintage shopping in Munich! I know the city quite well now and I totally love it: there’s always a lot to do, see, eat and drink there but it is also a great place for vintage shopping.
After my first visit a couple of years ago I can define myself a vintage professional in Munich but don’t forget to make a quick research before traveling: maybe new vintage shops have opened and you can find interesting vintage events by searching them on Facebook (like I did when I was there and found two great random vintage markets).
Tricia Leonard Vintage was the first on my list and not only because she is now a friend. It was the first place I visited years ago and I totally left my heart there. First, because of Tricia herself: a beautiful jazz singer with a history that taps into Milan. She is such a lovely woman with great style, taste and an incredible story, and her shop is a direct reflection of her person. You won’t find a lot of clothing, but tons of amazing accessories and jewellery dating back to the ’20s. You won’t believe your eyes! Her collection of brooches really left me open-mouthed, but more than that- I fell in love with her fantastic collection of hatpins. Hatpins are one of my favourite vintage accessory ever! It’s very hard to find good ones, but in Tricia’s shop- I couldn’t decide which one to pick (I picked more indeed!). You will find wonderful vintage bags, shoes, buttons, whatever you are looking for she has. I could spend hours there without getting tired or bored!
Next door to Tricia is another lovely vintage shop, very different style, more eccentric called Cat with a Hat (adorable name!)… and as I love both (cats and hats) I couldn’t help stepping in to take a look! Very colorful and funny shop with some statement pieces that are really worth your time! There are also new pieces but the rock vibe of this shop is utterly interesting.
Walking in the same area (around Fraunhoferstrasse subway station, what I call the vintage area of Munich) there is crazy vintage shop… I would say more surreal: Alexas. There you’ll find amazing statement pieces from the late ’70s and ’80s, but stay away if you don’t like buying items that demand the spot light because Alexas’ inventory is notorious for capturing the eye!
Last but not least: Vintage Love… a real paradise for vintage lovers! You can find almost everything and very good quality. Now, in glorious vintage custom, you’ll have to take your time and search, but you can find whatever your heart desires: from wonderful designer gowns to more casual clothes, shoes and very rare handbags and jewels. It is a bit more pricey, of course, but the pieces are well priced without much exaggeration (you know I am an expert on vintage pricing!). The shop is very spacious and you will probably have that feeling of “Where should I begin?” But once you’ve found your way, you can get completely lost in this wonderful shop that is really worth a visit.
If you want to go further and want to get typical Bavarian costumes, head to the incredible shop Holareidulijö where you can try amazing handmade costumes and understand how they look good on you and on your curves! They are less expensive as many of them are second hand, but if you have the chance to find a garage sale (like I did) make sure you get one there: prices are ridiculous!
