The house of Gucci was founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence, Italy, in 1906. During the 1920s he sold leather bags to horsemen and progresses to luxury goods as his clients took up horseless carriages. By this time the iconic horsebit and stirrups, which were derived from the company's origins and denoted the sophistication of the products, had come to represent Gucci's success. The early 1950s saw the introduction of the interwinted double 'G' logo which would later become a trademark and status symbol.
